Reference to the magnitude of the war effort on part of the Greeks is made in the second book of Homer's Iliad, which is the main historical source of information about the war. Although it doesnt seem to be a reliable source, there was substantial evidence found in accordance with what had been written.
The Greek forces consisted of 28 contingents from Greece, the Peloponnese, the Dodecanese islands, Crete, and Ithaca. A total population of 76,000 to 130,000 men were involved in the war.
